Updated Friday 18 January 2013 - Following the evolution of IN DARKLIGHT into a 3-piece during 2010, brothers Ben & Louis Sellers and Ross Archer continue to develop and expand in the alternative rock genre. This is evident from a succession of original music releases since 2004. Their latest EP, 'Drift' (Dec 2012) excites, portraying new ideas and influences. Frontman Ben's powerful, yet melodic bass lines blend with driving, precisely orchestrated drumming from Louis to create a tight and explosive rhythm section. Adding Ross' creative and distinctive guitar work to Ben's honest, reflective lyrics results in soaring choruses, mature songwriting and hooks that refuse to vacate the memory. With the technical ability to self-produce to exacting standards in the studio and the musicianship to carry this on to the stage, live performances are energetic, effervescent and engaging. The musical content both challenges and entertains the listener - power balanced by harmonic subtlety and skilful touches of brilliance; confidence without arrogance. Just as the previous release, 'Beautiful Design' (Mar 2012) differed from the preceding self-titled EP (Aug 2011), 'Drift' portrays new musical horizons that move forward, never looking to repeat." Updated Friday 21 December 2012 - Letter from Paul Jeans from the Station Hotel: Station Hotel's Annual Rock Jam, Saturday 12 January 2013 ---- Dear All, For the past five years we have held a charity event on one of the Saturday's of the new year at the Station Hotel Andover, which is loosely called a "Rock Jam". What we do is to get together members of lots of the local bands (not blues they have a blues night every third Monday of the month) and play "a once a year one off event". The event is unusual in that throughout the evening no one plays together in their normal band line up. So you may have three songs with the drummer and bass player of one band the singer of another, and the guitarists from a third. The next three songs the line up changes again. Which also means the whole of your band does not need to attend, but the more the merrier! This is only possible by getting a list from everyone in advance of the songs they play and matching it with the songs other bands play (no we don't do Slade Merry Xmas!!!) The PA ,drums, lighting, amps etc. are all provided by Andover band Less is More, who have organised the music side of the event since it started, so you just need to bring your Sticks, Guitars and Singing Voice. The whole thing is great fun, a bit chaotic, very full, and it's all in a great cause, for charities:- TBC which ones… It's also great opportunity to meet and play with other like-minded musos. Last year we had members of: Just Testing, Stonepig, No Way Out, Less is More and Nailed, to name just a few. If you are interested please contact Mark Holden s.mark.holden@hotmail.co.uk, of Less is More, who will be able to give you any other details you need.

Updated Friday 21 December 2012 - One of Andover's most popular covers bands, LESS IS MORE, is playing this Saturday 22 December at the Wolversdene Club. This will be the last gig for their drummer, Dave Peters, for 3-6 months as he's going under the knife in January for a major op on his back, putting him out of action for a while. Paul Dobinson has kindly agreed to step in as their drummer in the meantime. Head along to the club on Saturday to hear them at their best, performing modern covers from bands such as Kings of Leon, The Fratellis, Oasis, Muse, Red Hot Chilis, Snow Patrol, The Killers, plus some of the older classics. Updated Monday 10 December 2012 - 'The Lamb Session' has recently moved a short distance from The Town Mills back to its birth-place, The Lamb Inn, 21 Winchester Street, Andover SP10 2EA. This popular free fortnightly folk music session run by Marion Wilson is friendly and inclusive, welcoming performers ranging from established and seasoned members of the local folk scene and beyond through to occasional or first time performers. Many people simply come along to listen and soak up the relaxed atmosphere. People start arriving from around 7-30pm onwards and the music kicks off at 8pm and goes on until 11-00pm or sometimes beyond. There is a break of about half an hour at 9-30 for a 'chin-wag' and any announcements. Performers and onlookers generally stay for the duration but there is no pressure to do this and people often drop in for just a while if they aren't able to make the whole evening. It is always great to see new faces both performing and listening... everyone very welcome. For announcements and general session chatter see the Facebook site at www.facebook.com/lamb.session. The next event will be the Christmas special on Tuesday 18 December 2012. Visit www.andovergigguide.co.uk/TheLambSession for all 2013 dates.

Updated Monday 10 September 2012 - After weeks of physio and rehab, Just Testing's guitarist, Chris Powell (ex-Flaxen), has picked up his guitar and is back on the circuit with the band. At their gig in Eversley last weekend, the band played with both Chris and Geoff and it was fantastic. So, JUST TESTING will be playing at the Station Hotel in Andover this Saturday 15 September with both Chris and Geoff playing lead guitar - the numbers will be rocky, that's for sure!
