Updated Sunday 15 April 2012 - The Yellow Art House Music Rooms present THE MIGHTY HUMP at the Abbots Mitre in Chilbolton. Friday April 20th from 9pm: www.facebook.com/yahforyou. Hump was formed in 2004 for a one-off garden party of the Whitchurch Amateur Dramatic Society. The line-up included lady clarinet and keyboard players and an eight year old trumpeter. Old rockers John Kent and Barney Bett joined the group for its Hammer of Doom Apocalyptic Heavy Metal phase, taking the White Hart in Stoke by storm in 2006. By the following year a new, horn-heavy line-up, with latin percussionist, played at the Festival at the Pheasantry, in the South Downs, appearing on the same bill as 'Staa Marx' and 'The Flopsey Bunnies'. After a Balkan Tango phase, featuring the accordionist John The Barge, Hump then entered into a Faustian pact with a group of Andover poets, putting on a Jazz and Poetry gig at The Lamb in Andover - that night will be long remembered locally. Now on a more wholesome diet of modern jazz, and blues, with some originally-composed and experimental material, Hump present an intimidating spectacle, begrudging the limelight to occasional guest performers. The band is a legend from Laverstoke to just outside Whitchurch. Three of the band members are trained psychotherapists, while the remainder have unresolved issues of anger, fear and guilt.
