Updated 02 July 2009 - Thanks to Anne from the Foresters Arms in London Street, Andover, for contacting us with details of their events for July. A new venue on the guide, the Foresters has been booking some live singers/guitarists recently, as well as the occasional karaoke or disco, so there's something for everyone to enjoy. On Friday 3 July there is a '70s and '80s night starting at 8pm. On Friday 10 July (8.30pm), back by popular demand, is a solo artist called 'PHIL D' singing songs from all decades. On Friday 17 July (8.30pm), 'LOU TAYLOR' is another solo singer and guitarist. Finally on Saturday 18 July is a Karaoke evening from 8pm with the Disconexion Roadshow.

Updated 29 June 2009 - CRISPYSTOCK 09 - Crispy, aka Christopher Vearncombe of Andover, was crowned UK Air Guitar Champion in 2005, but was sadly killed in a road accident a few days before he was due to defend his crown. In association with The Lights, his many friends celebrate Crispy with an annual charity concert in his honour. The concert's raises money for Headway, the charity that helps survivors of brain injuries lead their daily lives. T-shirts, merchandise, full licensed bar and catering available. The concert will be taking place on SATURDAY 12 DECEMBER and the doors open at 1pm. Live music from 2pm to midnight. £3 minimum donation on the door. On Saturday 4 July is the BMW Bikers' Hog Roast and tickets are £10 (this covers entry and food). The event is a ticket only event, so contact the band via www.nokando.com for tickets. Nokando will also be appearing on the Friday evening of the Weyhill Fair Beer Festival on 10 July and at the Tidworth festival family day on Sunday 26 July.
Updated 21 June 2009 - Thanks to Elaine from the White Hart in Penton Mewsey for contacting us with details of the next band to play at the pub - Formed in January 2008, the four-piece band GREAT WALLS are currently gigging around Hampshire. Updated 09 June 2009 - The semi-finals of the Chantry Centre's talent competition "That's Centretainment" took place on Sunday 7 June and the lucky 13 acts have been chosen for the final that will be held at The Lights on Saturday 4 July at 7.30pm. Sharon has launched two Clive's Easylearn Rock & Pop Music Schools in Andover: Monday evenings at Andover Baptist Church and Tuesday evenings at Winton School. These schools give children from 7-17 the chance to learn to play guitar, bass, drums and keyboard, and they get to jam in bands from their very first session. Updated 17 May 2009 - The Bob Marley tribute act LEGEND will be headlining on the main stage at this year's TWANGFEST on Saturday 11 July at the Testbourne Community School in Whitchurch. Updated 10 May 2009 - A local talented musician and regular guest on Andover Sound, 'ONESTONE', better known to most of us as Dave Tucker, has now created his own MySpace page (although the mobile version of the popular music-sharing website actually thinks he's a 109 year old Female -- not sure if Andover is ready for that!). He has uploaded four of his acoustic classics including 'You've Got A Friend', 'Love Will Keep Us Alive', 'Streets of London' and 'Nothing At All', all recorded through the interview mic at the Andover Sound studio. Friday evening's session (9pm-11pm) will have live music from NOKANDO, their 14th year at the festival. Updated 04 May 2009 - Thanks to Jack Sinclair of the THAMES VALLEY JAZZ QUARTET for contacting us again - their Sunday afternoons of New Orleans-style jazz at the Bell Inn in Weyhill continue to be a success and they have booked a number of repeat dates (check the listings to find out when). They have also lined-up a few dates for the White Hart in Penton Mewsey. Jack is renowned for his unique and powerful clarinet tone and has performed on the bill alongside the professional bands of Chris Barber, Acker Bilk and Kenny Ball. These afternoon performances run from 1pm to 3.15pm. Admission is free - turn up and listen or dance. Tables are bookable for meals. All ages are welcome.
Updated 24 April 2009 - We have been contacted by Mark Barlow, the bassist with The SAM PAINE TRIO. They are a contemporary blues band from the Basingstoke area that plays covers and original material and they have added four Andover dates to this year's gig list: Sat 30 May at the Borough Arms, Sat 13 June at the Railway Tavern, Fri 14 August at the Anton and Sat 17 October at the Station. Updated 05 March 2009 - The BIBLECODE SUNDAYS are returning to The Entertainer in Andover on Friday 24 July for a repeat performance following their last successful gig in November. After last time, tickets are expected to sell fast, so don't miss out. The band is fronted by Ronan McManus, the younger brother of Declan McManus (aka Elvis Costello), along with musicians who have played with Bad Manners and Shane McGowan & The Popes. Some gigs will be performed under the title JON WALSH BLUES TRIO playing real and jazzy blues music, the JON WALSH BLUES EXPRESS will be playing the harder-hitting blues stuff and of course there are a few gigs here and there with Jon playing solo blues - They have an incredible line-up of gigs across the South including many in Andover. Gigs in Andover include Propaganda on 26 March, The Swallow on 10 April, and the Propaganda again on 25 June, 12 November and 10 December. Also, fairly locally, they will be playing at the White Hart in Penton Mewsey on 11 April, the Plough in Grateley on 1 May and at the Watership Down's Beer Festival in Freefolk (nr Whitchurch) on 30 May.

The new studio has air-conditioned rooms that are well-equipped with the latest in audio recording equipment suitable for solo artists, instrumentalists or bands from novice to professional. Thanks to a recommendation from Shaun (ex-BIZR), these guys travelled north for the first time on Saturday 17 January from their comfort zone around the Portsmouth area to play at the Station Hotel. Terry and the band would like to thank everybody at the Station for a great reception to the area and they hope to be back in Andover again very soon. Previously known as DC18 with Mike providing vocals and guitar and Zoe provides vocals and tambourine, they are now looking for a bass guitarist who can also provide some vocals. As DC18 they have played gigs across town and neighbouring villages, including the Railway Tavern, the Lamb Inn, the Plough at Grateley and the Amport Inn on New Years Eve, and they have already made bookings for 2009 under the new name. Ian is the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter for local group LOWLY GALLOWS and also performs as a solo artist called THE WIDOWMAKER. Ian is studying music journalism at Southampton where he performs frequently, although he does perform all over Andover too including a recent appearance at Richie Madisun's Help For Heroes charity gig at The Globe on 7 December. Ian is recording a new 9 track EP at the moment called SOUNDTRACK TO REALITY and you can listen to four of the songs on his MySpace page at www.myspace.com/ianeastonmusic.
