The Troggs   SUNDAY 18 MAY 2008 - THE CLUB AT LIFE - 7.30pm

In aid of NAOMI HOUSE, the Andover Gig Guide presents THE TROGGS, supported by LESS IS MORE, STONEPIG, MIDNIGHT FISH, EASTWOOD and KONAN.


We've been talking about it for a few months and, thanks to our friends and sponsors at Bulpitt Print Ltd, the tickets are now available for the gig on Sunday 18 May at The Club at Life to raise funds for NAOMI HOUSE.

Andover's legendary band THE TROGGS will always be remembered for "Wild Thing", one of their many UK hits. Others include "With A Girl Like You", "I Can't Control Myself", "Give It To Me" and "Love Is All Around".

Supporting THE TROGGS will be 5 great local bands that we all know and love: LESS IS MORE, STONEPIG, MIDNIGHT FISH, EASTWOOD and KONAN.

Updated 14 May 2008 - Thanks to James from FUNKLINE for contacting us. Formerly known as Funk Yard, the band are now back at full force with a new name. Their first gig as at Propaganda on Thursday 16 May. More gigs and a website will be announced shortly.

Updated 07 May 2008 - Thanks to Pete from BARELY LEGAL for contacting us. This band frequently plays around Andover with their mix of pop and rock covers. Check out their website at www.legalrock.co.uk. They are playing at the Crown in Ludgershall on Saturday 31 May. Their next Andover gig is at the Anton Arms on Saturday 26 July.

Updated 02 May 2008 - Thanks to John of TORN OFF STRIPS for contacting us with a list of gigs in Andover through to November. They hope to be playing on a stage outside the Guildhall on Carnival day, Sunday 13 July, followed by a full set at Propaganda in the evening.

Update 29 April 2008 - Thanks to Graham Inchley, the club chairman of the Urban Terrain Sports Club (UTSC) at The Depot Youth Centre in Andover for contacting us with news of JAMALOT 2008, a Battle of the Bands competition that will be taking place on Saturday 19 July between 2pm-10pm(ish). With support from the Test Valley Rock School, numerous local bands will be performing with the emphasis on giving the younger bands the opportunity to play alongside the more experienced bands. The event will take place at The Depot, which is located in the Charlton Sports & Leisure Centre on West Portway in Andover, and all proceeds (entrance fee/donations) will go towards the Andover Skatepark Project. The UTSC was launched in 2007 with the aim of providing a facility for all of the town's skateboarders, BMX riders and roller bladers to practise their skills. Update 24 April 2008 - The ANDOVER MUSICAL & OPERATIC SOCIETY (AMOS) presents THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, a Tony award-winning stage musical based on the 1967 musical comedy film starring Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore. The original musical opened on Broadway in April 2002 and is full of new songs and dances. Visit the AMOS website for more information about the society and the musical. Update 20 April 2008 - Thanks to Andy of ROADRUNNER, a blues and rock n' roll covers band who were playing at the Angel on 19 April for letting us know about another Andover gig that they have planned at the Anton Arms on Saturday 5 July. Visit their website at www.roadrunnerblues.com. They are regularly playing in Basingstoke, Alton and Yateley, so let's hope that we see much more of them in Andover. Meep Meep!

Update 20 April 2008 - On Saturday 24 May, the JON WALSH BLUES BAND will be performing and recording their second live album in front of a live theatre audience at Central Studio (situated in Queen Mary's College) in Basingstoke. Update 31 March 2008 - This year's Andover Live event 'Summer Sounds' will take place on Sunday 06 July in Vigo Park and will feature music from LOS ALBERTOS and others to be announced. Update 27 March 2008 - Thanks to Adam Sargent, co-organiser of the two-day Shalbourne Music Festival also known as 'Shalfest', for contacting us. This year's festival will take place on July 4th and 5th. Shalbourne is located 14 miles north of Andover on the A338, near the Wiltshire/West Berks border (get directions here). BOY KILL BOY and IDLEWILD will be headlining this year. KILLER QUEEN, winners of the 'World Best Tribute Act' award, will be appearing on the Saturday. There will be provision for camping, plus a selection of real ales and fairground rides. Shuttle buses are provided to and from the site. The site itself is at the top of Rivar Hill on the ridge above the village. Tickets, including an advanced weekend ticket that includes camping, are available on the festival website: www.Shalfest.co.uk.

Update 11 March 2008 - Thanks to Jon of the JON WALSH BLUES BAND for contacting us; he has added many more dates to their diary, including gigs at the Railway Tavern (May), the Angel (August), Propaganda (August and October) and The Lights (November). He will be playing solo acoustic blues at the Blues on the Meadow festival in Aldermaston on July 5th.
